Hello everyone. My name is Justin. I was born and raised in Uptown New Orleans, LA. My parents moved us to Hilton Head Island when I was in high school. Two really cool places to live.. Graduated, went to college in Sewanee, TN.. Graduated, Moved to Washington D.C. I decided it was time to move back down South to Atlanta. Like a great yoyo, the job has now taken me to the Big Apple. Still getting adjusted, but from time to time I feel like a New Yorker.
Music is my passion. Everything I do relates back to it.. Most of the memories of my life are tied to some song or another..some album or another.. Helps me keep my near photographic memory of my life.. Back in Atlanta, I played in 3 bands. I am still always writing, and looking to collaborate with like minded folk..
Photography, why you are here, is my other passion. I started when I was in 5th grade.. Got my first darkroom at age 12. I was the dork who had to take your picture for the yearbook.. Led me to put it down. Got back in to it in college, got back out after... Now, it is on again!
At the end of the day, when you hire me to shoot photos or video, you get a guy who treats the job like you were family. I don't work all that much. Every project is a labor of love, and you get my full attention. You probably also end up with a family friend.. I don't think any client of mine has not kept in touch, and vice versa.. It gets that personal!
No job is too big, no job is too small... Just ask me..
This is somewhat of what to expect when you hire me to shoot video of your wedding!
Rae and Bud had a 20's themed wedding. I met Rae through my real job: She designs bedding (yes, comforters, duvet covers, and quilts), and I buy bedding. She says she is getting married, I asked if she had anyone to shoot video, she said no.. I got the privilege. It was absolutely amazing. Please note, photos were just snap shots from my trusty x100s that was on my hip... I was not the official photographer!!
Thanks Rae for letting me share in you and Bud's day!
So, I have Amazeballs, talented friends. One of my best is Matt Odom of mattodomcreative.com and rockandrollhearts.com. He was hired to do this wedding in NJ, and asked me to shoot along side of him. What he edited was an amazing video for the couple. Congrats Shelby and Tim, and thanks Matt for adding my footage to this awesome video!
I had the great pleasure of working with Kevin O'Brien and Dransfield & Ross to create videos for the Bed Bath & Beyond Website. I also wrote and recorded the music that is in the background. Just a couple of examples of corporate and documentary work that I can do.
As you can see here, I have a couple of friends who are always down for portraits. Thanks to all of them for letting me capture their best...
What I want you to see here is my range for lighting, composure, posing, styling, and post processing (re-touching).
Being a musician and a photographer, it is a natural to try and attempt to combine both. While I have never shot anyone that famous, the honor to work with some of the best local musicians has been more than enough to satisfy. Georgia was home to some of the best signed bands ever. Lets see how all of these guys do in the future!
I love to shoot families. If you ever have a family affair, and need a photographer, feel free to hit me up. Remember, unless your family member IS a photographer, they are NOT a photographer. Owning a DSLR does not make them a photographer. Do the preservation of your memories a favor, hire me! :) No family event too big or too small!
I love shooting weddings... There, I said it... But, I am not traditional.. The style is photojournalistic. I get in there close. Yes, you will get all of the standard family shots. But I am constantly looking for the little moments in your day to tell a story. I promise you will love the results.. From the very traditional, to the very unique... I am your guy!
So, Maternity is new for me... So, I am open to absolutely any idea you have, or I can bring my own. If you want to wear your white shirt and blue jeans while your partner does the same.... Sure, I'm down... BUT, If you want to get really creative, I am with you there too. Ask about my special Bump-9 rate for monthly shots to document your entire term!
Every artist needs his muse... Mine came in the form of Naomi. A beautiful Hawaiian girl who stole my heart. She inspires me daily to chase my passions... I generally find myself unable to stop chasing her.
If it were not for the Mundahs, I would have never been...kinda cool. These guys are a special part of my history. They took me in, taught me how to be a musician, and a few life lessons along the way. They are a Hilton Head Island institution. Surf Jazz Rock. Nights that never ended at the Old Post Office. The guys that gave us our first gig. Great to see y'all back together. For sounds go HERE
I met Mary on a photo shoot for an album cover. We became great friends and she became quite a muse as I was learning my way around the camera again. She also is married to a guy from my hometown of Hilton Head (which is a small world story of its own). For the next couple of years, she was always willing to help me when I needed a subject. Here is some of our work together!
We took a cruise to Italy and Greece in 2011. Put the new Fuji x100 through its paces as well as Snapseed for iPad. All photos were quick edited on that software. How far we have come from the darkroom!
A beautiful day in Venice Beach, CA. Our hosts, Matt Odom of MATTODOMCREATIVE and Eric DeFino of RAYGUN. Great times, day and night..
Our 2012 vacation took us to Barcelona, Capri, Rome, Florence, Provence, and Cannes. Took the Fuji X Pro1 for a spin (and the iPhone of course). Great results!
The real job took me to Amsterdam for the day. Brought the Fuji X100 for the task. Neat experience! Thanks to Tommy Hilfiger for hosting us.
My job in fashion takes me all over the world shopping for the trends you will soon love. I have had the privilege to work for two of the best retail companies on the planet. I have been able to buy for Men, Women, and now Home. We are looking for inspiration in any corner we can find.
